Welcome Week 2025

STAR has had a very busy Welcome Week, recruiting new members for the society, and supporting charities and refugees around Edinburgh. It’s really important that new and old students know that there is an accessible, supported way to help support refugee communities while they are studying!

On Tuesday we spent all day at the EUSA activities fair, and spoke to hundreds of students about the opportunities STAR provides!

On Friday we held a volunteering taster session, and had a great turnout to sort through clothes donations, and get board games and food donations for The Welcoming.

If you didn’t manage to catch us during Welcome Week but want to get involved, come to our first meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 at 50 George Square.

For the committee, highlights of the week included meeting a postgraduate student who had been in STAR Cardiff, as well as welcoming back old committee members who had been on years abroad!

On Wednesday we had a great turnout at our Welcome Week picnic, and introduced lots of people to the work STAR does!

On Thursday we had an amazing decoration making session for our ceilidh next week!

Also on Thursday, some members of our committee attended the Edinburgh Beyond Borders welcome event for new students.
