A Talk on the Nakba
On Wednesday STAR are honoured to have Dr Anthony Gorman join us to give an important talk on the Nakba. Please come to 40 George Square, room LG.09 at 18:30 on Wednesday 24th September to hear more.
In July of this year, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese reported that the University of Edinburgh was, in relation to the Israeli military complex, one of the most financially entangled institutions.
However, this institution’s complicity in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians began over a century ago. The illegal and immoral decisions made by this University played an immense role in the events of 1948, or what is often referred to as The Nakba (The Catastrophe). Over 750,000 Palestinians became refugees after being systematically and violently expelled from their homes.
To raise awareness of Edinburgh’s legacy of complicity in the displacement of indigenous people, STAR is honoured to be hosting a guest talk presented by Dr Anthony Gorman (Senior Lecturer in Modern Middle Eastern History), who will be focusing on the Nakba itself, the events leading up to it, and how the historiography of what actually happened evolved over time.
